The Magic of Collaboration: Bringing Characters to Life

I clearly remember the first time I discovered references, It was a behind the scenes video of the making of Disneys 'The little mermaid'.   I was inspired watching the collaboration between the actress and artists to bring this character to life.

With the art of animation, in order to breath life into pencil sketches the artists must have a  strong understanding of using body language and facial expression to communicate emotion.   Using desk mirrors to reflect their own facial expressions,  enhancing their skills  in life drawing classes and filming models enacting out scenes.

The use of reference models extends beyond static sketches; it involves the dynamic process of filming models enacting scenes. The synergy between artists and live models adds a layer of authenticity to the animation process, elevating it from mere drawings to living, breathing characters.
